gu55	On Sunday, a political activist from Iran managed to break a window and escape from the detention center outside of Malm– where he had been held awaiting deportation by Swedish authorities. He was assisted by protesters on the oustide who had shown up to prevent the police from deporting him.
gu55	More than 100 people had gathered at the detention center at SegevÂng in the outskirts of Malm– on the warmest day of the year to protest against the decision to deport the 55-year-old communist, threatened by death penalty in his home country. The demonstrators aimed to prevent Swedish police from taking the Iranian activist away from the center to put him on a flight destined for Teheran the same day. Information about his
gu55	se was spread by the exiled Iranian workers' communist party during the 1st of May celebrations in Malm– and on Sunday morning many of the city's leftist activists, including members of the Malm– Asylum Group and Anti-Fascist Action, joined the iranian protesters.
gu55	By three o'clock, police showed up and, after a meeting with detention center personnel, the activists gathered were told that by a decision from the top police chief of the region, the detention of the Iranian had been postponed. The demonstrators were celebrating the decision they had hoped for ‚ since a new application for asylum has recently been handed in by the man's lawyer, more time is needed in order for Swedish aut
gu55	ities to once again try his case. A couple of hours later, however, the crowd was informed that the deportation of the man would take place already the next morning instead.
gu55	It was by then that the man himself and some of the activists on the outside decicided that the best thing for him to do was to escape the detention center. He managed to break one of the center's windows and people on the outside helped him climb out of the building. He then ran through the excited crowd to an awaiting car that quickly left the site.
gu55	Swedish police have got no traces of the man and Malm–'s activists could celebrate a perfect finale of an intense 1st of May weekend that had this year been focused on asylum politics and the rights of refugees.
